Macworld Expo: No More DRM?

January 13th, 2008 · No Comments

stevejobs.jpg This Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. CST, Steve Jobs will give his annual keynote address at the Macworld Expo, unveiling the latest gadgets and gizmos Apple plans to put out over the next year. If I were loaded, I’d probably be more excited about this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited all right, but the odds that I’m going to be making any big purchases over the next year are pretty slim. I haven’t even upgraded to Leopard yet–so I’m way behind.

I have heard some buzz that after posting his thoughts on the direction of digital music almost a year ago–more specifically about digital music rights and record companies–Jobs may make a big announcement about the iTunes music store and drm, especially since Sony has now changed their position on the matter. And yes, by “big announcement” I mean the end of drm. At least as we know it in relation to iTunes. Which would be great, I’ve hated drm since the beginning and would love to see its demise. But then again, it’s anybody’s guess. We’ll just have to wait until Tuesday.

You can keep up with live updates from the keynote at the Macworld Expo site, MacRumorsLive, or Engadget [Ht. Adam].

For those of you that actually have money to blow there are more predictions here, here, and here. I’m sure you’ll find something you just can’t live without.
