So, I’m taking this class on the parables of Jesus and one of our assignments is to write six original parables using the same sort of literary devices and role reversals that the historical Jesus did. Early on, I remember thinking this wouldn’t be too big of a deal, but when I actually sat down to write I discovered it’s much harder. But, I was able to squeeze one out. So here you go, the parable of the dandelion:

“The ecosystem of God is like a dandelion that a child plucks and blows, scattering its seeds along the ground for none to see, but for all to find.”

Thoughts?

I really like the imagery. I think the contrast between the weed and flower could be fun to pursue, but you’d likely end up just reinterpreting the mustard seed. In any case, I like what you’ve written.

brandon. thanks for stopping by. i was sort of going in the same direction as the mustard seed as far a substance overtaking something else and thriving, but also the empty jar a little bit with the emptiness of the blown out dandelion. then i was listening to some podcasts on ecological sustainability so i got really excited about those kinds of metaphors. at any rate, 1 down 5 more to go!
