If there were no other reason, if he did nothing else in his presidency, this statement by one of his appointees makes me glad I voted for Obama.
NO MORE EQUIVOCATION ON MATTERS OF TORTURE! WOO!
Also, regarding your post two previous, I think that the expansion of one's view of God through exposure to the views of others and their cultures is the beginning of wisdom for a religious person. By limiting God/our views of God, we severely limit our ability to grow in spirit and begin to lose our sense of wonder. I am always extremely glad to see a Christian who has insight into this truth. (I say this only because they dominate my immediate landscape, not because I feel they are particularly benighted in this way.) Once again, I am glad to know that you are one of those being groomed to preach to your people.
Thank you for the kind words. They are encouraging because at times — and those times seem to be coming more often than not these days — I feel like an alien among by own people.
Ha! Alienation. I'm familiar with the feeling. It helps me to remember that the only difference between a heathen and a revolutionary is general acceptance. Go to your work. Those who hear you will benefit. I benefit from it.
Plus, I think a little alienation helps us maintain perspective and opens a space for discussion. What would we talk about if we all said the same things?
