Commenting Policy

Blogging, like any good thing, has its pros and its cons — or, put another way that is perhaps a bit more accurate, a blog’s greatest strength is also its greatest weakness  On the one hand, bloggers and readers have the opportunity to participate in decentralized, meaningful and edifying conversation through which mutual learning can take place.  On the other hand, because the blogosphere is, by its very nature,  a radically egalitarian platform, it is subject to abuse by trolls, and other persons/bots whose main purpose is create unwarranted controversy by hijacking a conversation, assuming an openly hostile and antagonistic attitude, and often times directing unnecessary ad hominem attacks toward others involved in the conversation.

Because of this many bloggers choose to implement some sort of commenting policy or disclaimer in attempt limit any unneeded negativity.  I have modeled my policy after theirs.

Please take a few minutes to read the guidelines listed below.  As a reader, commenter, and contributor to the conversation here at BlakeHuggins.com we each have a responsibility to one other, a responsibility that can only be fulfilled if we are all on the same page.

  • I moderate all first time comments. I do this mainly to avoid spam that might slip past the filters and to make sure that you are indeed a human being.  After you comment for the first time and I approve it you will be able comment freely as you wish on any post, provided you enter the same information each time and remain civil.
  • I reserve the right to delete comments at my discretion. To me, a person’s blog is like their virtual living room.  You are welcome to come in, put your feet up, grab a drink, and join in the conversation.  No one person dominates the conversation, but is still that person’s living room.  And that persons reserves the right to take control of the space if the conversation gets out of hand.  I haven’t had to do this yet, and I hope that I never do, but still. . .
  • Anonymous comments are discouraged, but allowed.  I would prefer to know who your are as we dialogue. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous I would ask that you provide a real, function email address so I can differentiate from the spam.  That address, like all the others, will not be shared.
  • Please try to stay on topic. I’m willing to be pretty loose with this.  Conversations naturally evolved on their own and I don’t want to stifle and meaningful dialogue that might take place.  But, in respect to others, let us try as much as we can to stay on track with whatever topic is at hand.

Please feel free to contact me privately at anytime if you don’t feel comfortable public commenting or if you would like to discuss something that might be a bit off topic from the conversation at hand.

Thanks for being a part of the BlakeHuggins.com community and participating in the ongoing conversation!
